Supporting Rokoding

I get a lot of email from people asking how they can help support Rokoding and donate to the cause. The easiest way to show your support is to allow your web browser to display banner ads on Rokoding. If you see the ads already, thanks for your support. I use Google AdSense on this site, which means you don't have to worry about pop-up ads or ads that try to download malicious programs to your computer. Simply letting these ads display can help support Rokoding.

If banner ads are not to your liking (completely understandable,) then there is another way to help support the site. I also use VigLink to place keyword links through out this site. These links will take you to merchant sites where you can buy items, such as a new Roku or an iPad. The link takes you to the merchant site with an id unique to Rokoding, so if you purchase anything from the merchant site, Rokoding gets a small commission.

So why not add a donation button? It was suggested by many users of this site and seemed like a great idea, but I decided against it for one important reason. There are many other worthy causes you could donate your money to: preventing child abuse, feeding needy children or helping children with cancer.

It's your choice if you want to support Rokoding, it's not a requirement. When I first started this site, it was to help a small amount of "hobbyist" who were curious about encoding video. Over the past four years, the demand for Rokoding has steadily increased as the Roku has become popular. The profits earned from banner ads and click through links will be used to keep paying for the domain name. If funding can be sustained over a period of time, then I will certainly start shopping for reliable paid hosting to help with the slow load times currently experienced.
